Let the Water Teach You: A Contemplative Watercolor Retreat
With Patty Donoghue and Tiffany Compton
April 7 - 9, 2026
Water has always been a teacher.
Across Christian, Indigenous, African, Asian, and global spiritual traditions, water is honored not only as the source of life, but as a guide—showing us how to move with grace, yield without losing strength, persist without force, and rest without guilt.
Let the Water Teach You is a contemplative retreat that invites participants to slow down and take notice, learn from water through observation, reflection, and watercolor practice.
Set among the trails and creek at Well of Mercy, this retreat weaves together quiet outdoor time, gentle spiritual reflection, and an immersive watercolor experience led by a partnered artist. Watercolor becomes a spiritual practice—one that asks us to collaborate rather than control, to respond rather than direct, and to trust the unfolding process.
Participants will be invited to:
- Spend unhurried time along the creek and wooded trails
- Reflect on the wisdom of water drawn from diverse spiritual traditions
- Engage in a spacious, guided watercolor session by artist Patty Donoghue
- Explore how water’s movement, patience, and adaptability mirror our own lives
No previous watercolor experience is needed. This retreat is not about creating perfect art, but about practicing presence, attentiveness, and trust.
