Silence & Ceremony: A Contemplative Retreat with the Wisdom of Rabbit, Deer, and Hawk
With Sandra O'Brien
September 9 - 11, 2026
Are you curious about participating in a silent retreat but wonder if you can be quiet for several days?
This retreat offers a gentle introduction as we move from noise to noticing in silence; while incorporating ceremony in community. We blend extended periods of sacred Quiet with daily opportunities for conversation and shared reflection.
We begin Wednesday with a warm welcome and soft exchanges, followed by a meal filled with lively conversation. After dinner, we enter into approximately 38 hours of silence (excluding two guided group meetings on Thursday). During each of the four total sessions, there will be opportunities for quiet sharing and reflection before gently emerging from silence in Friday morning’s session.
Throughout the retreat, please feel free to speak with staff at any time should you have personal needs or concerns.
As we journey from activity and conversation into stillness and silence, we will engage daily in sacred practices of journaling, guided imagery, ceremony, breathwork, nature immersion, and sound healing. In the spaciousness of the Quiet, our words become fewer, our senses awaken, and our hearts begin to see what truly matters.
Our signature Quiet is more than the absence of sound—it is a sacred container that allows you to listen deeply and encounter yourself and the Holy in new ways. In the silence, our words become more intentional and carry deeper meaning.
As this three-day, two-night journey unfolds, we are guided by the wisdom of three animal companions:
Rabbit invites us to gently acknowledge the anxiety we carry and transform that into creativity, courage, and new beginnings.
Deer teaches us the sacred practice of tenderness, helping us walk with greater gentleness and compassion toward ourselves and others.
Hawk lifts our vision beyond our immediate concerns, inviting the perspective of seeing our lives from a higher vantage point.
Along with silence and ceremony, these companions guide us from listening inwardly to honoring what is discovered and carrying it back into our daily lives with renewed intention.
