Tune In to the Birds

The Well’s natural landscape provides the perfect habitat for a beautiful and diverse community of birds. Being aware of the rich bird life around us can enrich our experience of nature, wherever we are.
Spring is a beautiful time of the year to observe and listen to birds. This retreat begins with an introduction to birdwatching and identifying birds by sight and sound. You will enjoy a guided walk through the grounds of Well of Mercy with all the sights and sounds of birds.
The retreat includes:
- Information about bird watching and identifying birds by sight and sounds.
- Guided bird walks across the meadow and through the woods.
- Information about native plants and their importance to the bird community.
- As you walk about the beautiful property of Well of Mercy, you will be able to look and listen as you are guided to identify the native plants/flora.
- Want to see a barred owl, a screech owl, or a red-tailed hawk up close? Included is a special presentation from a bird rehabber who will bring several of her “guests” to visit.
- 2-nights accommodations in the guest house in a private room, private bath
- Six nutritious, delicious, complimentary meals, snacks, tea, and coffee.
- Private in-room coffee service, with access to a shared refrigerator.
- Retreat materials/supplies.
- Therapeutic services available with advance reservations for an additional fee. Note: space is very limited.

What to Bring. Participants should bring binoculars if possible. We highly recommend installing the free Merlin Bird ID app onto your phone and downloading the Southeast Bird pack.

Virginia Perry is a retired Marriage and Family Therapist, Elementary School Counselor, and Wake Forest Counseling Program online Practitioner Instructor. Virginia has enjoyed seeing, hearing and learning about birds since childhood and loves sharing with others her enthusiasm for birds and God's many beautiful gifts in Nature with others.
